DON'T use river sand! I never had a flea problem until I used some river sand. One of my neighbors had a big pile and told me to help myself. My Mom was visiting and she watched me move about a dozen wheelbarrow's worth before she said "River sand usually has fleas in it." That was about eight years ago and I still have flea problems.
